Family coat of arms

The coat of arms of the Scheffler MMXXII Family Foundation ("family coat of arms") was established in 2023 and developed in accordance with the scientific principles and rules of heraldry.

The underlying family name Scheffler belongs to the group of occupational names. Surnames derived from occupational, official or professional titles can be found from the earliest times, initially among the nobility, who often derived their surnames from hereditary offices, such as the Schenkenamt ("Schenk"). Similarly, when the guild trades became more important in the towns, middle-class families used their professional name as an honorary title until it became a family name. This was due to the fact that a profession was often passed down through generations in the family. The corresponding surname was usually continued even when the profession was no longer practiced. The name Scheffler goes back to the Middle High German scheffelære (= "Schäffler, cooper"). The name is still in use in Bavaria today.

The blazon, with which the coat of arms of the Scheffler MMXXII Family Foundation is heraldically clearly and completely described, reads: Blue-silver split with a curved silver shield base, in it a continuous black cross, at the split on the right a golden lion emerging, holding a silver barrel with black tires in its right paw, on the left a half golden-armed black eagle, holding a black six-spoked chariot wheel in its muzzle. On the helmet with blue-silver covers a closed blue flight with silver sweep.
